About this group
We are a not-for-profit community group, run entirely by volunteers and our main plan is to regenerate the land to use as allotments again by community groups. We will also create an open community allotment garden. The land we're working on was formerly used as allotments but has been disused for roughly 40+ years so needs some serious work done to it to be able to make it safely accessible and useable. There are several purposes that will be achieved by doing this.
By regenerating the land and putting it in use, we will: make excellent use of disused land; inspire enthusiasm for growing fruit and vegetables; reduce energy waste in food chain; share skills and expertise; encourage a passion for conservation and being outdoors; integrate students into the wider population of Sheffield; inspire passion for volunteering; cultivate innovative methods of re-using and recycling; provide a community support network, and once regenerated, we will be able to host therapeutic horticulture sessions to support vulnerable groups in learning to grow their own food.
