We would like to install solar panels to our meeting house along with double glazing and replace the out dated hot water system with electric water heaters. We are aware of the positive impact this would have on the environment and also that it would raise the profile of sustainable energy in our community. As our outgoings would be reduced and we would have an income for the next 20 years by joining the Feed-in Tariffs scheme (FITs) we would have greater flexibility to encourage greater use of the meeting house by community focused groups based on their needs rather than their financial position.
At present we have Southbase meeting at the hall on Fridays. Southbase offer support and guidance on a wide range of issues centered around sustainable housing and work to prevent isolation. As such they are helping to prevent homelessness happening. Included is advice and support for homeless, drug and alcohol problems, money management, benefits, problem land lords. Their meetings also offer an opportunity to meet others and a social aspect is encouraged. For more information about Southbase go to; www.savsmembers.org/southbase?file=kop1php
We are pleased to have a group for children named The Triple T using the meeting house from June. This group is being organized by turning tides, who have recognized the need for support for the young people in our area. They are doing this with support from the BBCs children in need. This has proved to be a great success and plans are in place to expand on this to meet the demand. For more info about them and the Triple T club go to;
