We've made it through to the final energyshare vote!
We are in the 'large' category, competing against 5 other schemes to win £100,000 towards Jordan Dam Hydro. Jordan Dam Hydro is a water power scheme on the River Don near Meadowhall.
- it is expected to generate as much electricity as used by 80 homes
- it will save about 170 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year
- any profits from the selling the electricity will help to develop other energy schemes
This project is driven by the enthusiasm and time contributed by our volunteers. So winning it would be an excellent way for the wider community to support them. We have already raised over £65,000 towards this half a million pound project by selling Community Shares to individuals, organisations and businesses. There will be another Community Share offer next year to raise more of the cash we need, giving more people the opportunity to become members and have an equal say in the future of Sheffield Renewables.
To promote the vote, Matt Hilton, one of our volunteers is producing an online animation and poster. We will be adding these to our energyshare profile once voting details are confirmed. Our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/pages/Sheffield-Renewables/270964901958?ref=ts) has a photo album showing new people how to register and vote. Facebook, Twitter (#sheffieldrenew) and our website will have lots of progress updates encouraging people to vote over the next few weeks. Please share them with everyone you know once you have voted to encourage them to get involved!
Many thanks in advance for getting involved to support Sheffield's first community-owned renewable energy project.
From the Sheffield Renewables staff and volunteers.
