About this group
Sheffield Renewables was established to develop and operate community owned renewable energy projects in the Sheffield area, in a way which brings benefits to the environment, the city and its people. We aim to harness local enthusiasm, knowledge and skills by creating an energetic and committed social enterprise.
The organisation is built on local participation through our volunteer, support, invest approach: we have a strong volunteer ethos, and benefit enormously from the work of our many volunteers; we have also built a broad base of support from local organisations and individuals; and our projects will offer an ethical investment opportunity for local people. Investors will receive a modest financial return, complemented by wider environmental and social benefits, including the re-investment of surplus revenues in local sustainability projects.
We have already begun developing other local renewable energy projects to follow on from Jordan Dam. This includes Kelham Island water wheel and examining the potential for wind power in Sheffield.
