A date for your diaries: 1000 – 1300hrs 24thMarch 2012 Old Basing & Lychpit Community Energy Engagement Event at the Old Basing Village hall.
The short notice is due to all sorts of complications but our Climate Week challenge is to arrange the event in 10 days. We are aiming to get as many local businesses that have capability and experience in energy demand reduction and renewable energy solutions to attend. The objective is to help our community be more well informed about the opportunities that are available to reduce the cost of heating and electricity demand in their homes and transport to their routine destinations.
At the event we will run short workshops that demonstrate how the average household can easily reduce spending on fuel and power by £1,000 pa. We will highlight the shocking facts about fuel poverty in our borough and help people to become empowered to take action to resolve the situation. We will also help to show some of the local produce and services that we might like to use more and introduce some thoughts about renewable energy.
Our objective is to create a safe environment for people to ask questions about unfamiliar technology and explore the art of the possible. It is not all about solar and wind or heat pumps we are also keen that people should think about the fabulous products that are made and served locally. We would like to initiate the dialogue about what we can produce within our community for the community without costing the earth.
We cannot confirm what suppliers will be able to attend our event at this time but we would encourage people to drop in and see what they can learn. We hope that there will be a good number of stands to explain local business offerings and we can be confident that there will be people with first-hand experience of some solutions. The event will be made by those that turn up and the structure will be flexible to the needs of our community.
In my opinion the headline will be explaining what we hope to achieve from the design of our new Old Basing Baden-Powell Centre for Scouts and Guides. There is a lot of exciting progress and we simply want to share the good news with our community.
Come along if you can but even if you cannot make it please make sure that you tell your friends and family about this event. We want you to know that as a community we can make a real difference and do something amazing!
