About this group
The local residents are appalled at the declining state of the shopping facilities in Wallsend and the High street. The closure of the Co-operative Supermarket 24 months ago and the refusal of Morrisons to open their store has resulted in drastically reduced shopping facilities for local residents. As a result, the decreasing footfall in and around the High Street is threatening the livelihood of local traders and we feel that Wallsend Town Centre is in danger of turning into a ghost town if immediate action is not taken. Were looking at opening our own supermarket to replace what the mutlinationals cant seem to deliver but we need hel;p to make "the peoples supermarket" a realitity. With funding we will be able to open a business that not only supports the local residents but enables us to have a green effect, within our town centre delivering a low carbon, energy efficent space for local people, to shop, socialise and re-build are flagging community.
