About this group
Our 12 metre long 1m deep pool was built in the 1970's. It is in need of modernisation so that the children of Perranporth School, local primary schools, users of the local St Piran's Childrens Centre and Perranporth Pre-School as well as local eldercare groups and the surf life savers amoung others can take advantage of this community facility.
We need to heat the pool. A learner swimming pool like ours should be between 28 and 32 degrees. Currently it is 15 degrees on a warm summers day. We want to use solar thermal energy to heat the pool with an air source heat pump to top up the water temperature on cooler less sunny days.
We want to enclose the pool in a timber frame structure to extend the period of use from a few weeks in the summer to an April to October season.
The structure would incorporate changing facilities, toilets and solar thermal showers and have full disabled access.
There would be an outside landscaped area for picnics and the pool could be used for private hire(this would subsidise the free and low cost swimming available to those in our community.
