About this group
We have received planning permission to install a 10 kW Solar PV scheme on the roof of the Grade1 listed historic Melbourne Parish Church after the district council received more than 80 separate letters of support and none against. We are participating in the South Derbyshire Low Carbon villages (home insulation) programme. We have set up a solar-buying group. We are exploring the possibility of growing biomass on an area of potential community woodland which could power the soon-to-be community-owned leisure centre. We are giving talks and presentations at all levels and encouraging others to think, adapt, mitigate and change.
All this and many more projects, including food growing and bee-keeping, are essential to rebuild our community's resilience to the impacts of Peak Oil and Climate Change. Flagship projects like these are vital to educate, set an example and show that there are positive approaches in the face of huge problems.
